The U.S. Department of Justice has set up a new department to crack down on illegal timber trade worldwide
The U.S. Department of Justice announced the establishment of a new interdepartmental working group to strengthen the identification, investigation and prosecution of illegal timber trafficking related to environmental and other crimes.
This working group called timber (TIMBER INTERCEPTION MEMBERS COMMITTEE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT RESOURCES) brings together multiple government depanrtments of the transnational organised crime commission of the united states. According to U.S. officials, its goal is to combat deforestation and illegal timber smuggling through global supply chains
